WHITE PICKET FENCES: A GIRL'S DREAM

Aren't white picket fences every little girl's dream? Those are the stories that I am drawn to. I have always liked to read and get lost in other people's stories. It is the purpose of books to introduce a world to its readers that they would not have known otherwise. When I was a preteen I fancied myself a writer, and not just any writer, but a writer of romance novels. I dreamed of writing a collection of romance novels at a very young age. As children we all have dreams, the trick is to remember and retrieve these dreams when we grow up.

Luckily for me, the dream of writing a novel came to fruition for me last year when I published my first book entitled Everyday In Between written in two parts. The journey started for me in college when I fell in love with Nicholas Sparks's stories. I give him credit for inspiring me to become a writer. When I graduated college, I decided that there was no better time to start writing. In the process of writing, I had the opportunity to visit Wilmington, North Carolina, and absolutely fell under the spell of that charming town, therefore, Wilmington is one of the settings in my book as well as some other places that I have visited, and some that are still on my list to visit.

As I wrote this book it became about a lot more to me that just a romance between two main characters. I wanted to write something that the readers could believe, and not anything that was too far fetched. As a young girl, it is inconceivable that love does not always come together beautifully. We girls have all dreamed of the "white picket fence scenario", but in real life we do not always get the white picket fence. I wanted to create characters that were believable. I wanted my readers to relate to the characters, therefore, my characters are flawed like any other human being. I wanted to write a story that had heart, and was brimming with human emotion. Hopefully, I accomplished that in my first attempt at writing a novel.

From the books that I have read, the authors have drawn upon their own life experiences. I know that I drew upon mine at least it is a good place to start. In my opinion, the force that drives any story is simply human emotion. People's emotions are powerful. Emotions can drive people in a myriad of different ways, some good that leads them down the right path, and some not so good that forces them to learn harsh lessons.

When my book was published, several people asked me what it was about. To me, it is about so much more than just the synopsis on the back cover. I do not know if they were looking for some profound answer to their question, but simply put it is a about Livvie Gellar one of the main characters in my book, and her journey through this thing we call life. I invite you to take the journey with her as she has to leave the only home that she has ever known, and her best friend behind. And as time marches on, she finds herself on a new canvas where she interacts with new people and finds a deep connection with Will Stamp in whom she shares one of life's sweetest experiences.

When her heart has been broken, it is only then that she begins to grow up, and realizes that life is not just about "white picket fences". As I mentioned in a previous paragraph, there are two parts to the book. Part I: At the Time is about a young naive girl who is yet to truly experience life. Part II: Matter of Time is about a mature woman who has had some true to life experiences. Life takes its twists and turns, shaping Livvie into a mature woman. With this maturity, she is equipped to handle even the most complicated circumstances involving her relationships, her family, and even her career. And through it all she learns some very valuable life lessons; the chief among them is the journey is more important than the destination.

When I reached my own destination at the end of this book, it was hard to let it go. It was hard to let go of the safety and familiarity of the world and characters that I created. Then another seed was planted in my mind, and began to take root so it was easier to leave Livvie Gellar and her world behind. When one story unfolds, another one is waiting to be told.

You can find my book at online retailers such as amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and borders.com.
